Resumen:
Tomado de la nota introductoria: "All men of whatsoever quality they be, who have done anything of excellence, or which may properly resemble excellence, ought, if they are persons of truth and honesty, to describe their life with their own hands. With these words Benvenuto Cellini begins his autobiography, which today holds a unique place among the autobiographies of the world. The period covered by the autobiography is from Cellini's birth in 1500 to 1562; the scene is mainly in Italy and France. Of the great events of the time, the time of the Reformation and the Counter-Reformation, of the strife of Pope and Emperor and King, we get only glimpses. The leaders in these events appear in the foreground of the picture only when they come into personal relations with the hero; and then not mainly as statesmen or warriors, but as connoisseurs and patrons of art. Such an event as the Sack of Rome is described because Benvenuto himself fought in it."
Tomado de Amazon: "Compiled and edited by Charles W. Eliot in 1909, the Harvard Classics is a 51-volume Anthology of classic literature from throughout the history of western civilization. The set is sometimes called "Eliot's Five-Foot Shelf". The 5 foot Shelf of Books affords a substitute liberal education by reading just 15 minutes per day. Dr. Eliot, the designer, aimed to provide the means of obtaining knowledge of ancient and modern literature and present a record of the stream of the world's thought while using only 5 ft of shelf space. What it brings to you is romance, humor and adventure, and complete exposure to the classics. The Reading Guide gives you suggested readings for each day of the year."
