Resumen:
Tomado de Foreword: "This book is a brave adventure that cannot go unnoticed or be enjoyed only for its illustrations and its commentary on the art that Philip Morris has helped put before the public. It is a unique unveiling. For the first time, we can view in its entirety the relationship of a major American corporation with the arts. The reader has the opportunity to be there from the beginning, from a country-and-western concert in Kentucky in the 1950s to a Jasper Johns exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art in 1977. The art critic, the connoisseur, the shareholder, the competitor, the tax collector, the curator, and even the director of a museum can come away from this book with a complete account of what one pioneering company has done about the arts, and why. This information can be used to cavil or criticize or to reinforce approbation. Better, I believe, would be for the reader to be pleased that the book is here and to use it for pleasure first and for perception in due course. That in a way has been the sensible approach of the Business Committee for the Arts for more than a decade. The BCA has acted on the idea that the best argument for more business support of the arts lies in exposing business to the example of corporations that have led the way. This book does that well, and I feel certain that the anticipated encouragement of new leadership will become a reality beneficial to us all."
