Tomado del Publisher's Note: A Dream of red mansions (Hung Lou Meng, sometimes translated as The Dream of the Red Chamber), the great classical Chinese novel written in the mid-eighteenth century during the reign of Emperor Chien-Iung of the Ching Dynasty, has been widely popular throughout the last two hundred years and more. It was no accident that such a work should appear during the Chien-lung era (1736-95). It was the product of class contradictions and class struggles in that period of Chinese feudalism.
