This means tracking down a special breed of under-celebrated hero -people who have knowledge that matters- and then giving them a platform that can make their ideas accessible. It seems to be working. A few months ago, our 6-year-old experiment, offering TED Talks online for free, shattered all expectations by rocketing past one billion views. Today there are some 1,400 TED Talks posted on our site, and they generate about a million and a half views every day. Speakers tell us their work has gained significant, sometimes transformative, visibility. Viewers tell us they see the future with a greater sense of possibility and participation."
